Our invites started out with a standard pocket fold, and we have stuck with it. Lately the sheer cost of a wedding has been a stress for me so I sat down to figure out how I could keep the pocket fold I wanted and not end up with a invite that cost more than $2. Yes I know go ahead and laugh, but when you need 100 of them 2bucks a pop turns in to $200 pretty darn quick.
So I got down the cardstock boxes (yes I said boxes) and set out with a goal to make 2 pockets come out of a 12″ x 12″ piece of cardstock. After some cutting, and swearing I did finally come to the conclusion that I would need a little bit of another color of cardstock to make it work. A little more trial and error and I decided that it would be very time consuming to glue each pocket together. Glue would also take up some of the space I have for inserts so I am going to use tiny silver paper brads to hold the pocket part together. And so is born our 5 1/2″ square pocket fold….

On the front we will layer the secondary cardstock color with the ivory we are using for all the main cards.

This will be the labeling area for who is invited that is normally on a inner envelope which we have gotten rid of. (Yes we will be sending one to The White House so we will hopefully receive a letter back!) Then all of it will be tied together with a ribbon.
Since we have a pocket there must be something to go in it right? Well we are doing 3 cards (accommodations, directions and RSVP w/envelope) in the pocket and the main invitation panel.

In a later post I will tell you about designing the inserts and show those off! I also will be writing up a tutorial on how to make the pocket folds, so you all can see how easy it really is.
The Boy thought it was weird how the cost of the original pocket folds concerned me, but this time my stress has actually caused me to save money because now the invites are going to cost us more like $1.15 ea…including postage! So have you had something that was stressing you out end up saving you money on your wedding?
